Van Gogh Interior Design [Illustrated in Color] (Affordable Portable Art)

The phrase "interior design" promises more sophistication and planned perfection, perhaps, than the humble building interiors where Vincent Van Gogh felt most at home and to which he committed his fine artistic eye. This volume displays images of building interiors from weaver's studios to restaurants, cafés, hospitals, bordellos, billiard parlors, butcher shops and his own bedroom in a digitally restored state: their eye-popping brilliance and vitality are just as on the day Van Gogh finished them. Unless otherwise noted, they were originally oil paintings on canvas. (They depict individual interiors, complementing"Van Gogh Townscapes" with representations of conglomerate settlements and "Van Gogh Buildings" with individual building exteriors by the same publisher.)

Vincent Van Gogh's short art career provided the world with unparalleled paintings from a troubled genius. It was to be an age of post-Impressionistic color, form and wonderment that the art world discovered only after the master's death. Bouts of anxiety, mental illness and epilepsy may have tormented him and brought about his suicide at the age of 37. But they may also have been catalysts for an emotionality and vibrance in his art that reveals a turbulent search for grace.

Technical Note: All but one of these images are in color -- they render beautifully in optimized gray-scale tones for black-and-white e-book readers, but exhibit even more stunningly in full color with color readers and inside Kindle apps for color-enabled computers and portable or hand-held devices.

Viewing Tip: Since most of these interior designs are shown in a native "landscape" mode (width greater than height), you can turn your portable or handheld device lengthwise as necessary to show the fullest possible detail. If more than one landscape image is showing on the screen, adjust the viewing options to exhibit a single image. Reverse the orientation back to "portrait" mode for images taller than they are wide as well as for the title page and introductory materials. (A normal computer terminal should exhibit both modes to maximum effect.)
